(BNI) is administering a $400,000.00 grant received from the NYS Affordable Housing Corporation that is providing homeownership opportunities for families wishing to purchase a home along the Emmett Street corridor.
Families below 80% of area median income will be eligible to receive up to $20,000.00 per unit to enable them to purchase a single family or a two family home on Emmett Street in the City of Schenectady.
A portion of the funds may be used for down payment/ closing costs assistance, with a major portion of the funding to be incorporated into the costs to rehabilitate the home. Costs associated with the buildings rehab will be centered on Federal Housing Quality Standards (HQS), energy savings practices, and the City of Schenectady’s building code requirements.
Also available on Emmett St is BNI's Renter Rehab grant. This program is for the rehabilitation of tenant occupied apartments on Emmett St, and provides funds of up to $21,333 per rental unit. In addition, the property owner must contribute at least $1,000 toward the total project cost. Repairs can include updating electrical, plumbing, heating and roof systems as well as structural improvements.
